Signature Gardens Drive entry
The situation: The drive and most frequently used entry to the home are bordered by a small planting area that featured three air-conditioning units, a towering, leggy cypress, and nondescript shrubs. The clients asked for a low-maintenance, colorful planting that effectively disguised the air-conditioning units and provided screening from the street.
The solution: Right plant, right place! The new garden features three coral-barked maples, underplanted with sedge and perennial geraniums, for a neat but full look. Large oval Japanese hollies soften the house line and evergreen viburnums and hydrangeas supply a long season of bloom. The air-conditioning units are camouflaged perfectly by espaliered hollies already trained to a 4' x 4' x 1' box shape. "I smile every time I drive in", says the client.
