| The solution: A veranda fronted by boxwood and underplanted with perennial, long-flowering geraniums provides a formal, yet welcoming approach. The sadly ailing century-old beech tree gave way to a substantial paper-barked maple that, in time, will supply a similar distinctive note. Deep borders on the street side contain a mixture of evergreen groundcovers, flowering shrubs, and mid-sized evergreens for screening. To the left the entry court yields to a woodland garden, featuring variegated dogwoods and other flowering trees, conifers, shrubs and perennials. A mulched pathway lined with Annabelle hydrangeas and dwarf goatsbeard leads to the rear garden and patio area. |
